2 OS Choice
There are 2 main Operating Systems for personal computers currently available, Windows and macOS. This guide is for Windows
3 Connect to Setup Network (Windows 10)
Windows 10 may show slightly different options, but the steps should be similar across all versions of Windows 10.
- Select the Network icon in the bottom right.
- Select the Linksys Extender Setup from the list.
- Select Connect.
The network is unsecured; this is normal. You will be using it to set up the device only. After, you will be using the device over a secured wireless connection.
4 Initial Setup
- Open your prefered browser.
- In the Address bar, type in extender.linksys.com and press Enter or Return.
- Read the End User License Agreement carefully, then place a checkmark next to it to indicate you accept it. Place a check next to Automatic Software Updates so you don't have to worry about updating the device in the future. Then, select Start Setup.
- Select your home Wi-Fi connection from the list.
- Enter your Wi-Fi password for your home Wi-Fi connection, then select Next.
- You'll be asked to select a name for your extended network for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks. Normally it will use your home network's name, with "_2GHzExt" or "_5GHzExt" at the end. Enter a password for the Wi-Fi networks coming from your range extender, then select Next.
You can set the password on your extended networks to be the same as your main Wi-Fi Network, so you don't have to remember extra passwords.
- You may be shown a screen letting you know if your Range Extender is too far or too close. We will take care of moving the extender after we're done setting it up. Select Connect anyway or Next.
- You'll be asked for an admin password. This password is used to make changes to the setup of your Range Extender in the future. Create a password, enter it twice, then select Save. This password won't be used for connecting to your device, only for setting up the Range Extender itself. Make this password something you will remember, but is hard for others to guess.
- You'll be asked to register your new Range Extender. Enter your Email address, then select Next.
- Your range extender will restart with the information and settings you've given it. Then, you'll be asked to connect to your range extender to continue.
5 Connect to Network (Windows 10)
Windows 10 may show slightly different options, but the steps should be similar across all versions of Windows 10.
- Select the Network icon in the bottom right.
- Select the the network name you setup during the extender setup.
- Select Connect.
If you're asked for a password, it's the one you just setup on your range extender.
6 Complete Setup
- Return to your browser.
- After a few moments, the Next button will turn blue. Select Next.
- Your Range Extender is fully setup! A final screen will display with all the settings and information about your range extender. It is highly recommended to write down or print out this information, so you have it when you need to connect your other Wi-Fi devices to the network!
7 Location
Once fully setup, you can relocate your Range Extender to an ideal location in your home. Simply plug it in in the new location; it will save all the settings you entered and be operational a few minutes after you plug it in.
When placing your range extender, there's a couple things to consider:
- At least six feet from your router.
- About half way between your router, and the devices having problems with their Wi-Fi connection.
