Why Automatic Hyperlinks Are Helpful

When you sign an email message with your name and contact info, you likely include an email address. If it's hyperlinked, your recipient can click it to open a new email that's addressed to you. Your email may also include references to other contacts' email addresses, and automatically hyperlinking them would be handy and convenient for your recipient.

Note: Similarly, when you reference a website URL, automatically hyperlinking it makes it easy for your email recipient to visit the site.

Thunderbird's Automatic Hyperlink Feature

Thunderbird's hyperlinking feature is particularly easy because you don't have to do anything special. When you type an email address or website in Thunderbird, it looks like plain text in the composition window. It isn't a different color and doesn't appear to be a clickable link. However, if you save or send the message, the links become clickable automatically. Here's how it works:

1. 1. Open Thunderbird and select Write to compose a new email message.

   

2. 2. Type your message, including any email addresses or URLs you need to convey.

   

   Note: These email addresses and URLs aren't hyperlinked or in a different color. They appear as regular text.

3. 3. Select Send to send your message.

   

4. 4. Select the Sent folder to view the email you just sent. You'll see that the email addresses and URLs in the message were automatically hyperlinked.

   

5. 5. When the recipient opens the message in their email client, all emails and URLs are hyperlinked.
